Munro Dacosta Cup Interzone Round Up

November 2, 2011 Manchester High vs Munro

Both teams started quickly in an effort to take the lead, but it was Manchester who began to impose themselves on Munro. Apart from a few sporadic attacks, Munro never appeared to be in the game offensively.

Manchester midfielder Vincent Mitchell weaved his way past three Munro players to score with a shot to the upper right hand corner of the goal. Munro nearly equalised when Ryan Dwyer's excellently taken free-kick was deflected by the Manchester wall, barely missing the upright.

The second half was dominated by Manchester, and it would be Vincent Mitchell who doubled the score when he pounced on a loose ball after Munro Keeper Akeem Forbes saved a header from point blank ranged. Manchester cruised to a 2-0 victory.

November 5, 2011 Munro vs Lennon

In a grudge match at the STETHS Sports Complex, Munro was determined to reverse the embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Lennon High they suffered last season.

Munro had a better game than the Manchester game but could not find the net. Goalkeeper Akeem Forbes came up big on a few occasions to keep Munro in the game.

In the second half Munro had a slight edge in ball possession, and narrowly missed scoring on two occasions with Ryan Dwyer's ferocious shots just going wide. The game would end 0-0.

November 9, 2011 Grange Hill vs Munro

Munro scored their first and only goal from the penalty spot of this round with Amin Miller scoring.

Grange Hill would even the score when a corner eluded the Munro defense with Orvest Hewling sliding in at the far post to equalize. Munro problems escalated when right back Cleus Benjamin missed a clearance with his right foot; Daryl Daley collected the loose ball and fired powerfully past Akeem Forbes.

Grange Hill would score two more goals to win 4-1, their biggest win since defeating first round minnows Little London High and Maud McCleod High.

It was a disheartening season for the former champions Munro College, as they were only able to manage a point in the inter-zone round.

Munro derailed in Galloway Cup

Newell, St. Elizabeth- Galloway Cup Champions Munro College suffered a setback on Friday when they were beaten 4-1 by Newell High. Winger Mark Parchment scored Munro's lone goal.

Munro's next game will be on Teusday against Lacovia High at Lacovia in a double header that will see the Munro and Lacovia U14 teams playing as well.

Munro U16s Continue Defense of Title

Malvern, St. Elizabeth- Galloway Cup Champions Munro got of to a winning start to their 2011 season campaign when they clipped BB Coke 2-1. Striker Brandon Drummond and midfielder Jermaine Perry were on target for the champions.

Munro will continue their defense of the cup when they travel to Newell High this afternoon.

Munro lose to STETHS

Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth- A brilliant four pass combination to the prolific Kevon Farquarson who expertly fired to the right of National U17 invitee goalkeeper Akeem Forbes, gave Ben Francis Champions STETHS a 1-0 victory and a berth into the inter-zone round.

STETHS dominated a Munro team that rarely went on the attack. Munro centre forward Shaunuvan Desouza's made an effective run down the left, with his cross just missing the head of his strike partner Amin Miller midway the second half. Left midfielder Ryan Dyer would see his powerful shot blocked by the STETHS defense.

Munro goalkeeper Akeem Forbes had an excellent game holding on firmly to powerful shots in wet conditions.

Munro will advance to the interzone round on Tuesday without kicking a ball, once STETHS beats Black River.

Interzone Round Beckons for Munro and STETHS

Malvern, St. Elizabeth- Many time Champions Munro will seek to become early qualifiers for the interzone round when they go in search of a win at STETHS on Saturday. Munro are coming off a 4-0 whipping of Newell High yesterday. Striker Amin "Chiller" Miller scored a hat-trick, along with Kaniel Harrison's penalty. Munro are now tied with STETHS on twenty two (22) points.

A win for Munro or STETHS would lift them to twenty five (25) points and automatic qualification. Black River High who lost 2-1 to Lacovia at home yesterday with twelve (12) points are closest to Munro and STETHS in the points standings. With four matches remaining it would take nothing short of a miracle for Black River to qualify for the next round. Black River would have to win all their remaining games to get to twenty four (24) points, with Munro or STETHS having to lose all their remaining games in order to facilitate the unlikely qualification of Black River.

The Munro, STETHS game on Saturday has all the making of a classic. When the two met in September, it was on the bumpy Munro Sports Complex Field. This time around the surface at the STETHS Sports Complex will allow for much better football. Both teams are highly motivated, and losing is not an option for either.

Munro, STETHS Inching Closer to Interzone Round

Malvern, St. Elizabeth- Munro College exacted revenge on Black River High with a comfortable 2-0 win on Saturday. Strikers Shaunuvan Desouza and Amin "Chiller" Miller were on target for the former champions.

Munro are tied with STETHS on nineteen (19) points. STETHS have a rescheduled game today against Decartereth College, and a win today would move them back to the top of the Zone with twenty two (22) points.

Munro will be even with STETHS again should they win on Wednesday away against Newell High.

Munro continue Winning Ways

Malvern, St. Elizabeth- A penalty by Captain Kaneil Harrison and a brace by the ever dangerous Shaunuvan Desouza culminated in a 3-0 victory by Munro College over Balaclava.

As a result of this win, Munro is now even on sixteen (16) points with group leaders STETHS who's game against Decartereth College was washed out. In a game of academic interest only, Lacovia got by Newell 3-0.

Munro will next play Black River twelve  (12) points on Saturday at Munro, in a game which promises to be competitive.
