Munro/Forever Sports play-off for Semi-Finals

Llandilo, Savannalamar- Defending WFA U17 Champions Munro bounced back from their 2-1 surprise defeat against Western Sports with a 2-0 win over G.H.O.D.S.

The Munro front line was at full strengths and showed much better finishing than was the case against Western Sports.

Munro struck swiftly when Amin Miller collected a ball on the right, shimmed, then passed to Chavez Anglin who powered a shot towards goal that was met by the boots of the onrushing Levar Dunchie, who rammed it into the net.

Dunchie would try to get his second goal in half two when he sped past the G.H.O.D.S defense to fire over the bar at close range. Midfielder and Captain Shaunavan Desouza dribbled past two players, but his shot was well saved by the G.H.O.D.S goalkeeper.

Chavez Anglin would seal the issue, with a magnificent solo run down the left culminating with the second goal.

Munro and Forever Sports will now do battle for a spot in the May 8, 2010 semi-final at Frome, when they face off at Llandilo this Saturday at 2:00pm.

Munro Lead Zone A (WFAU17)

Llandilo, Savannalamar- Munro booked their place in the quarterfinal of the WFAU17 with a 1-0 win over Zone A leaders Negril FC. Chavez Anglin scored late in the second half to give the champions the win.

Munro squandered allot of easy chances in the early part of the first half. Negril was in survival mode for long periods in the game, and were content to soak up the pressure then counter attack. They were able to breach the Munro defense through the speedy Munro Class 1 800m man Lincoln Carter who had only played football at Munro as a junior. Carter was able to force two good saves from the Munro keeper Amir Murray.

The easiest chance of the game appeared when Levar Dunchie ran past the Negril defense, and with the goalkeeper at his mercy, hit the left upright with a thudding shot. Munro would be rewarded for their persistence when Chavez Anglin dribbled down the left to fire a torrid shot into the goal.

With this win, Munro is leading the group with 10 points from four games. Munro will play their last match of the round against Extra Flex on Thursday at the Little London High Sports Ground, beginning at 3pm.

Munro, Negril FC do Battle for Zone A

Llandilo, Savannalamar- Defending U17 Champions Munro, and their Zone A nemesis Negril FC both recorded contrasting wins yesterday in the WFA U17 competition.

Munro came away with three points without having to break a sweat when no hopers Russia FC who have just a point, failed to show. The boys from the pinnacle of the Santa Cruz Mountains waited steadfastly in the hope that Russia FC would show. Several calls were made to the management of the Russia team by the competition organizers, but no team was forthcoming.

Alas there was hope that the boys from Malvern, well attired in their new jersey would have a go after all, when it was pointed out that Negril FC was present, but their opponent was not. Negril was told to take to the field, but did not move for more than 15 minutes. STRATHS showed in the nick of time, to the disappointment of Munro.
Surely the organizers of this competition need to take a long hard look at a number of issues. The Clubs undoubtedly are at fault, and should communicate better with their players. The match in question aside: two other teams defaulted on their scheduled games and lost out as a result.

The clubs need to understand that competitions such as these are not only geared to winning the cash prize and the title, but also to building character and personality traits such as discipline, hard work, teamwork, communication, dedication, self confidence, self-worth mental fortitude and focus. The message being sent is wrong.

In another game Negril FC had to work much harder to produce a 2-0 win over STRATHS to stay ahead of Munro by a point.

Munro and Negril FC are schedule to contest the Zone in a game scheduled for this Tuesday April 6, 2010 at Llandilo Football Field beginning at 3pm sharp.
