Munro, Frome Draw; Black River United Next

Jordan "Betti" Bell (Far Post) scores with a header from a corner.

Frome, Westmoreland- Former Champions Munro College were held to a draw by Frome Technical after leading 1-0 via a first half striker by Jordan 'Betti' Bell.

Munro displayed their best midfield play yet in muddy conditions. The boys from Malvern took the attack to Frome all game long, and went into the lead when Jordan Bell headed the ball thunderously into the net from a corner.

With less than 15 minutes to go, Frome would strike back when Munro Keeper Lloyd Tyme parred a shot, which the Munro defence failed to clear allowing the the opposing striker to go between and score.

Munro midfielder Carl Simpson had other ideas, and came close to scoring when his shot hit the upright and went back into play; the onrushing Chavez Anglin mistimed the rebound and was unable to score.

Munro will next play Black River United this Tuesday August 25, 2009 at the Newtown Sport Complex, beginning at 3:30 pm.

Munro Eliminated in Quarterfinals;St.James Win

Craig "Breakfast" Foster scores the the final penalty to secure Munro's 3-2 win over Grange Hill

Montego Bay, St.James-Munro College's bid to annex the LINKZ 20/20 Football title stopped short at the quarterfinal stage. The boys from "the City set upon a Hill" outplayed the opposition handily, but did not execute when the opportunities arose.

Munro after defeating Grange Hill 3-2 on penalties went up against LINKZ 20/20 champions Jamaica College in the second quarterfinal. After a fast start by both teams JC went ahead 2-0 after defensive lapses by Munro.

The boys from Malvern were undaunted, and came at Jamaica College tenaciously. Their efforts nearly paid off when Errol Davis received a Craig Foster cross inside the JC 6 yard box, but fired over the bar.

Munro continued to pepper the JC defense, but faulty finishing let them down. The game ended 2-0.

The results for the LINKZ 20/20 from quarter final stage are as follows:

St. James High vs STETH 1-0

Munro vs JC 0-2

Brown's Town vs Godfrey Stewart 0-1

Semi Final results are as follows:

JC vs STETHS 1-1 (JC win 2-1 on Penalties)

Godfrey Stewart vs St. James 0-2

The result in the Final was as follows:

ST. James High vs JC 5-0

Munro will next play Frome Technical this Wednesday August 19,2009 at 3:30pm at a venue in Westmoreland to be determined, followed by a game against Manning's High this Friday August 21,2009 at Munro College.

Munro well set for LINKZ 20/20 Finals

Chavez Channer scores a penalty to put Munro up 1-0 against Lacovia, Craig Foster (#10) looks on.

Jarrett Park, Montego Bay- Munro College will take on Grange Hill in the opening game in the LINKZ 20/20 Football Fiesta Finals at 1pm, on August 15,2009 at Jarrett Park. The games that come after are as follows:

Brown's Town vs Maldon

Lacovia vs. STETHS

Godfrey Stewart vs. Frome

The winners of these games go on to the quarter finals where they will join St. James High and Jamaica College.

The three quarterfinal winners and the best loser will contest the semi-finals; with the two winners contesting the final.

By virtue of their win on penalties against STETHS and their 1-1 draw with Lacovia, Munro were adjudged the winners of Zone E despite much controversy from the STETHS contingent. STETHS had won their game against Lacovia 2-1, but the 20/20 organizers ruled that the Lacovia /Munro game after regulation time would have taken Munro to 4 points, and as a result zone honours. The organizers decided to end the debate by putting STETHS and Lacovia through, making the 20/20 a ten team competition instead of an eight team competition.

Mean while Munro continued their winning ways by beating Manning's High 2-1 in Savannalamar last Monday. Demari Stephens and Jordon Bell got the goals for Munro. This was a good result, Manning's has previously beaten Ruseas and drawn with Frome Tech and Herbert Morrison.

Last Wednesday Munro took on Glenmuir at Brancourt, and dominated for most of the first half, with the half ending 2-2. Glenmuir scored early in the second half when Munro keeper Lloyd Tyme hesitated to come for a cross, allowing the onrushing striker to tap in.

Munro took control for the next 25 minutes in the second half, missing four sitters. Glenmuir scored again in the final moments of the game to win 4-2.

Coach Hopeton Gilchrist is very confident in the Munro College team. With this weeks return of the quartet of ace striker Jermaine Samms, midfielders Dayton Stuart, Akeen Royal, and David Beezer; all 2007 team member; Munro's chances are good. These players will be complimented by former William Knibb striker Rajiv Service, and Reno FC striker Craig "Breakfast" Foster who are both 17 years old.

Rajiv Service is the "X" factor here. Hardly any of the opposing teams know of him. He is skillful, strong, intelligent, fast, plays multiple positions and can kick with either foot, but has not played more than 20 minutes all summer in practice games. This should change on Saturday when Munro attempts to win at the LINKZ 96Fm 20/20 Football Fiesta.

Munro battle STETHS & Lacovia in LINKZ 20/20 Football

Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth-Many time champions Munro College will play STETHS and Lacovia High in the LINKZ 20/20 Preliminary round on Saturday August 8, 2009 at STETHS Sports Complex; the round robin will start at 1pm.

Lacovia who have lost the core of the team that went to the Dacosta Cup semi-finals should be the least fancied to advance to the Finals next Saturday August 15, 2009 at Jarrett Park.

The inform STETHS who have gone 6 practice matches without defeat will be difficult to beat. However, Munro College who are yet to have the benefit of four players from their 2007 Dacosta Cup team are determined to exact revenge on STETHS.

The winner from the group is guaranteed a spot in the big LINKZ 20/20 Football Fiesta at Jarrett Park.
