Munro brace for STETHS

Malvern, St. Elizabeth- All roads lead to Malvern St. Elizabeth for the gigantic Zone F top of the table clash between many time champions and current Zone leaders Munro College, and  Dacosta Cup Champions STETHS.

When the teams meet tomorrow afternoon at 3pm in the cool hills of Malvern, Munro will look to maintain their edge over STETHS. Munro boasts an enviable four year unbeaten home game streak, and have conceded only one goal all season; this coming in their 3-1 win over minnows Mile Gully last Wednesday.

The STETHS contingent are faced with an uphill task to unseat the defensively stubborn Munro. Exacerbating their level of difficulty will be the absents of their top three players Kevon Farquarson, Akeemo Palmer, along with goalkeeper and Captain Gregory McKogg, who are all on national duty at the CFU U20 play-offs in Guyana. Coach Wendell Downswell, and winning Dacosta Cup coach Andrew Edwards will be both absent from the sideline due to their assignment with the Jamaica U20 Team. Undeterred by this, Assistant Coach Omar "Rambo"Legister, has used two contrasting teams in the last two games out of his twenty-six man (26) squad, to make up for the absence of his three henchmen.

Munro on the other hand should be ultra confident at home, they have not conceded a goal to STETHS at home since 2005. Coach Harrison is intent on qualifying for the Ben Francis and will leave nothing to chance. Munro will rely on the attacking prowess of Amin Miller, Shaunuvan Desouza, Kaneil Harrison, Karl Simpson, and Kenry Rowe to gain them victory. Munro needs only a point to qualify for the interzone round, but will be more satisfied with a victory tomorrow.

Munro cruise past Decarteret

Malvern, St. Elizabeth- Munro College maintained their good run in the 2010 ISSA Pepsi Dacosta Cup, when they emerged victorious with a 3-0 win over third place Decarteret College. Munro moved to sixteen (16) points from six (6) games, two (2) points clear of second place STETHS who beat Maggotty High 2-0.

National U17 and Munro central midfielder Kaneil Harrison opened the scoring for the Zone F kingpins . Minutes later Akeen Royal would net Munro's second to open up a first half 2-0 lead. Striker Amin"Killer" Miller would return to his scoring ways, getting the third goal for Munro.

The confident Munro should have little to worry about when they take on bottom placed Mile Gully this Wednesday at the Mile Gully Sports Complex.

Munro oppose Decarteret

Malvern, St. Elizabeth- Many time Dacosta Cup Champions Munro College, will look to maintain their impeccable defensive record so far, when they take on third place Decarteret College in a rescheduled game this afternoon at the Munro Sports Complex.

Munro are coming off a sound thrashing of Maggotty High last Saturday when they romped to a 4-0 victory with goals from Krishem Black, Akeen Royal, Jamaica National U17 midfielder Kaneil Harrison, and the imposing Captain Leighton "Egg Head" Thorpe. Thorpe's goal was a beauty, as he fired a powerful free-kick that crashed high into the corner of the Maggotty net.

In other games, STETHS hammered Lacovia 4-0, and Decarteret got the better of Mile Gully 3-1.

Munro,STETHS Draw 0-0

Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth- Many time Dacosta Cup Champions Munro College, held Dacosta Cup Champions STETHS to a 0-0 stalemate.

STETHS attacked Munro from the unset, but excellent goalkeeping by Lloyd Tyme, and keen defending by Central Defender and Captain Leighton Thorpe, and the defensive trio of Akeen Royal, Monair Moodie and former Black River High Captain Neon Brown was enough to keep STETHS at bay.

STETHS centre forward Derval Vascianna struck with a ferocious shot that was picked out of the "V" of the goal by the vigilant Tyme. STETHS struck again when they hit the post from a controversial free-kick that found its way to an unmarked player.

Munro settled a little better in the second half and could have caused problems for STETHS keeper Gregory McKogg had Amin Miller's shot been on target.

Munro lead Group F with ten (10) points, followed by STETHS on eight (8) points, and Decarteret College on seven (7) points.

Munro clip Lacovia

Lacovia, St. Elizabeth- Kenry "Shorty" Rowe scored his first goal of the 2010 Dacosta Cup season when he struck a powerful free-kick that took a deflection that gave 2009 Ben Francis Finalists Munro College a 1-0 victory over Lacovia High.

Munro resorted to maintaining their advantage gained in the first half  by cautiously attacking Lacovia in the second half. Lacovia could have equalised when Jermaine Seaton ran by Rasheem Eccleston, but booted wide from the right.

Munro responded a few minutes later when Shaunuvan Desouza weaved his way into the Lacovia goal area, but shot wide of the target.

In other Zone F games, Dacosta Cup champions STETHS warmed up for their "St. Elizabeth Derby" with Munro on Saturday with Markino Gillings scoring four times to give them an 8-0 win over Mile Gully at the STETHS Sports Complex yesterday. Decarteret College had a moral boosting 4-1 win over Maggotty High to remain in third place.

Malvern, St. Elizabeth: 2009 Ben Francis Finalist Munro College squashed minnows Mile Gully 6-0.

Rasheem Eccleston opened the scoring early in the first half with a cracker from long range.Akeen Royal made it 2-0 before the close of the half.

Munro would make changes to their forwards line when Levar"Craven " Dunchie was replaced by Amin "Killer"Miller, and Eccleston was replaced by midfield maestro Xavier Hendricks.

Miller wasted now time as he cut inside from the left to fire the ball into the roof of the net. Munro gained an indirect free -kick that was expertly guided just over the top of the Mile Gully wall by Captain Leighton"Egg Head" Thorpe, who picked out the onrushing Royal who headed the ball it into the goal.

Xavier Hendricks , and Shaunuvan Desouza would add to the final score with enterprising runs down the left and right flanks respectively.

Munro leads Zone F with 6 points, followed by STETHS on 4 points. Munro should get their first real test of this round when they play away this Wednesday to Lacovia High who drew with Maggotty 1-1 on the week-end.

Munro race to Lead in Zone F

Appleton, St. Elizabeth- 2009 Ben Francis Finalists Munro College rounded Maggotty High 3-0 to assume the leadership of Zone F. In the other Zone F game DeCarteret College clipped returnees Mile Gully 1-0 to join Munro on three points. STETHS and Lacovia are next with a point each after their dull 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Munro turned in a lackluster performance against a young Maggotty team that boasts a couple of the St. Elizabeth parish U15 team members. After an earlier miss from Karl Simpson, 2010 Munro U17 team Captain Shaunavan Desouza rocketed the ball into the net from a cross on the edge of the 18 yard box. Munro 2010 U17 striker Amin "Killer" Miller scored his first goal at senior level when he headed the ball into the goal. Akeen Royal also added to the scoring.

STETHS coach Andrew Edwards is a worried man. His team did not look good on Saturday against a defensive minded Lacovia High. STETHS were made to fight hard for the 1-1 scoreline after Lacovia drew first blood from a Jermaine Seaton strike. Lacovia has problems of their own; key member of the Lacovia coaching Lance Morgan was taken aback when his strategy for the game against STETHS was not employed.

Munro's chances to win the Zone are quite good, but they most avoid defeat away to Lacovia next Wednesday, and STETHS the following Saturday to keep these hopes alive.
