Munro outscore STETHS

Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth- Former champions Munro College had to dig deep to outscore STETHS 3-2 in a hotly contested Zone E game.

Errol Davis opened the scoring for Munro when he latched unto a loose ball, dribbled to the left past the STETHS defense and fired into the net. Munro intent on thrashing STETHS would go 2-0 up when Jordan "Betty" Bell scored a header from Captain Oneil"Lazza" Legister's free kick to put the crowd in frenzy.

STETHS were not dead yet, and clawed their way back into the game when Deshorn "Willy Man" Brown rounded the goalie, and with the ball cleared off the line by the Munro defense; referee Cheddlie Powell pointed to the penalty spot. Powell's call turned out to be one of the worst by a referee in recent memory, handing STETHS a life line. Brown returned to convert the penalty.

With the game swinging from end to end, Munro could have added a third goal when substitute striker Rafique Roberts dribbled past the STETHS defense, but failed to get the ball past the STETHS keeper when he was forcefully pushed in the back by a defender. Referee Powell declined to award a penalty.

STETHS made a fast break immediately off Rafique Roberts missed attempt at goal. Deshorn "Willy Man" Brown outpaced the Munro defense to score with a thunderous shot to make it 2-2. A loud uproar permeated the STETHS Sports Complex as the large crowd enjoyed the game.

With a minute to go Munro won a free kick just outside the area. Last man Leighton "Egghead" Thorpe cracked the ball with the outside of his boot, rocketing it ominously into the STETHS net. The chants of "MC, MC, MC" echoed through out the complex after Munro scored. Then came the whistled, Munro had spanked STETHS a second time.

With this win Munro advances to the Ben Francis KO competition quarterfinals, where they have to wait for the winner of Manchester High vs. Manning’s School. Munro's Ben Francis campaign kicks-off on Saturday October 24, 2009 at 3:00 at STETHS.
