Mandeville, Manchester- STETHS defeated Munro College 3-1 with much help from a band of St. Elizabeth officials. STETHS got on the score sheet first when one of their 2 strikers who were way offside collected a pass and slotted home pass the Munro goalkeeper. The referee looked towards the lines woman hesitated then awarded the goal.
Munro went on the attack and where rewarded when Amin Miller raced toward goal between two defender, resulting in one of them headed the ball into his own net. Munro should have went up 2-1 when Ryan "Blacka Shine" Dwyer headed over the bar from a Shaunovan Dezousa free-kick at point blank range.
Amin Miller should have sealed the victory for Munro 8 minutes from time, but his header six feet from the goal line ricocheted of the goalkeeper and into play.STETHS counter attacked, but Munro defended stoutly and played the ball up field and were in the process of an attacking move when the referee halted the game.
The referee went to examine a STETHS player who went down in the Munro box while Munro was in counter attack mode. One of the Munro players who was not even close to the play was yellow carded, and a penalty was given. Kevon "King Fish" Farqarson made no mistake from the spot for STETHS to go up 2-1.
STETHS added a third goal in injury time when the Munro goalkeeper was lobbed way off his line.
The Munro College U16 team did us proud having gotten this far. Munro were handicapped by the absence of their second striker Kryshem Black who missed school and faulty finishing. It is no shame losing to a STETHS team that boasts 4 Dacosta Cup players as opposed to Munro's one Dacosta Cup player.
The roles no doubt should reverse again in Munro's favour with much of this years U16 returning to contest the Gallaway Cup. The boys from Malvern will also be mindful of the fact that they won the rural U14 title in 2007.
STETHS most be commended for their performance this season having won all their matches, and scoring 10 goals in the quarterfinals alone. STETHS will be hard to beat and should win against Greenpond High who they beat 4-2 previously when the two meet again on Monday December 8,2008 at Mannings High.
